Fire Standards, Rules & Regulations
Fire Extinguisher & Suppression Systems
Kentucky Administrative Regulations (815 KAR 10.060) require that all food trucks comply with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes 1 and 96. In accordance with NFPA standards, all mobile kitchen operations must maintain rigorous fire safety protections. Specifically, food truck vendors are required to provide proof of a certified fire extinguisher and fire suppression system inspection completed within the last six months.
This means your equipment must be inspected between November and April to be compliant. To ensure you are compliant prior to the April festival, you may schedule a professional inspection with Jim Wells of Southern Fire Protection. Inspector Wells will be onsite to provide scheduled inspections Wednesday evening and Thursday morning at the festival. These inspections must be scheduled.

Food Truck Fire Safety Checklist
All food trucks will be inspected by the Pikeville Fire Department at the festival. This inspection will certify that your food truck meets all NFPA and KAR codes. Note that this general inspection does not include the six-month certification of your fire suppression system. For questions regarding fire safety contact Fire Marshal Kenny Sampson. You can also view the checklist to ensure you are in compliance before you arrive.
